Many USFSA gold medals have been earned over the years at the test session of the Michigan Tech Summer Figure Skating School. We have coaches who are PSA members, a high-quality program, and some of the best dance partners in the nation. Whether you are just getting started with your basic skills, or are already working on moves, dance, freestyle, synchro, or power, Michigan Tech has the skating school for you.








Basic Skills Lessons

Ideal for both beginner and advanced beginning students. One-hour session (30 minutes of lesson, 30 minutes of practice ice). United States Figure Skating Association Basic Skills are used. Skaters will be tested at the end of the week (Friday).

Small Group Lessons

For skaters transitioning from Basic Skills to private lessons.

  • Skaters must have passed Basic 4.
  • Skaters will work on beginning skills in Moves in the Field, Dance, and Freestyle.
  • Group sizes will vary from 2 to 5 skaters.
  • Skaters will receive 30 minutes of lesson and 15 minutes of practice ice.
  • Coaching fee not included.


Private lessons

Ice fees vary depending on the number of sessions requested. Each session is 45 minutes in length.

10 sessions or less - multiply the total by $13

11-20 sessions - multiply the total by $12

21 sessions or more - multiply the total by $11

Private lesson fees are paid directly to the instructor and are based on a fifteen-minute session. Private lesson fees are separate from ice fees.

Drop-in Sessions - Single sessions are $15 each. Ticket must be purchased at the Central Ticket Office for each skating session. Receipt/ticket must be brought to the music station to allow skater on the ice.


Test Day

The USFSA test session is held the Saturday of Figure Skating School (exact date TBA). It will include all test levels, including International Dances. There is a $25 fee charged to help cover ice time for this test session.
