Michigan Tech’s Student Development Complex offers recreational facilities and fitness programs for Michigan Tech students, faculty and staff; and for the entire community. The athletic complex features a swimming pool, fitness center, racquetball and squash courts, a huge multipurpose room, the varsity gym for basketball and volleyball, and the John J. MacInnes Student Ice Arena, home for the Division I hockey Huskies Spacious men's and women's locker rooms feature saunas and showers, and towel service is available. Patrons can check out a variety of recreational equipment, including basketballs, volleyballs and racquetball racquets. One of the most popular facilities in the SDC, the air-conditioned and carpeted Fitness Center is open to students (free) and SDC members. The center has the latest in aerobic exercise equipment, weight and fitness machines, free weights, and exercise balls and elastic resistance training. The full range of equipment includes treadmills, stair climbers, rowing machines, exercise bikes (both upright and recumbent), and elliptical machines. Bring your headphones, as the five televisions help pass the time while you exercise.

The multipurpose room provides a hardwood floor (newly installed in 2006) with space for four basketball courts, volleyball courts or badminton courts. A new synthetic flooring covers a regulation-shaped, five-lane, 200-meter track, which is available for running or walking anytime the SDC is open (with the exception of certain times when classes are in session). The multipurpose room is also used for intramural leagues and is available for rent, as well. Contact 487-2578. 
Six courts are available for the playing of squash, racquetball, and walleyball. Call to make reservations (two last names required) up to 24 hours in advance. Squash and racquetball courts may be reserved for one hour. Student groups registered with the Dean of Students can reserve courts 1, 2, 3, or 4 for the entire quarter by stopping by the Central Ticket Office. Group reservations may only be made one night (max. of two hours) a week and must remain the same for the entire quarter. The courts are located on the first floor of the SDC. Contact 487-2761.
With its mirrored walls and specially designed floor to provide greater resiliency, this area is used extensively by dance classes and dance enthusiasts. It is used by Martial Arts groups and other community programs. The dance room is located on the second floor of the SDC. Contact 487-2578.

The outdoor tennis courts are located on the south side of the SDC. Courts are available on a first-come first-served basis. No reservations are necessary, just go to the Central Ticket Office to pick up the gate key and make your deposit. Contact 487-2073.
Sherman Field, located next to the SDC, is the home playing field for Michigan Tech's varsity football team. The field is used by student orgaizations (such as soccer clubs and ultimate Frisbee) and is also available for rent. Contact 487-2578. 
The Portage Medical Clinic, located inside the SDC, is available for Michigan Tech students and faculty and members of the SDC. It is complete with trainers, full-time doctors, workout room, rehabilitation facility, and pharmacy. Contact 483-1860.
The Peter J. Grant Hockey Education Center is a facility for Michigan Tech's Division I varsity hockey team. Contact 487-2104.
Located near the Ice Arena, University Images is the place to buy Michigan Tech athletic apparel and souvenirs. In addition to regular business hours, University Images is open during SDC special events and all home hockey games. Visit the
