Hockey Development Center

Summer Hockey at Michigan Tech

They shoot, they score – and more than just goals! Every student athlete at the Michigan Tech Hockey Development Center scores big in experience and scores big in developing their skills.

Michigan Tech operates one of the oldest and most-respected summer hockey programs in the country. Since its 1972 founding, the center has served more than 1,000 players each summer, providing a supportive, positive, quality environment.

With facilities second to none and a coaching staff drawn from current and former NHL and NCAA Division I players, the Hockey Development Center offers a challenging, organized and effective program – and the scenery makes for a beautiful family vacation.

Hockey, power and fun

Players participate in a daily program to maximize strength, speed, balance and agility. One ice session daily concentrates on improving individual skills, including passing and shooting. Small area games and drills designed to get players to compete and battle for the puck are taught in all on-ice sessions. Stick handling drills emphasize decision making– when and when not to pass the puck– as well as effective moves. An additional session emphasizes team skills, such as breakout patterns, neutral-zone techniques, offensive-zone alignments, checking systems and playing position. Players also learn off-ice techniques and exercises that reinforce on-ice skills.
